Description

Possible medieval enclosure earthworks found in field survey in Coleman's Wood Plan Form - SQUARE NEARLY SQUARE ENCLOSURE. EACH SIDE C.25M LONG WITH EXTERNAL DITCH C.5M WIDE. SLIGHT OPPOSING BANK ON N, E, S SIDES. ENCLOSURE BANKS C.2M HIGH FROM DITCH BASE TO BANK TOP. POSSIBLE ENTRANCE BY NW ANGLE. A STRAIGHT BANK CONTINUES S. FROM W SIDE FOR C.15M. FOUND BY P. RICHES AND R. SMITH, HOLMER GREEN, 1982 (B1). A test pit dug in the enclosure ditch recorded a single fill about 1m deep, with a few sherds of abraded possibly Medieval pottery (B3).
