Description

Medieval to post-medieval moat known from nineteenth century records and field survey Dimensions - Length 0108 m Width 0090 Plan Form - SQUARE HOMESTEAD MOAT WITH STRONG RAMPART AT N END (B3). IN 1971 SE & PART OF SW & NE ARMS OF MOAT FILLED IN BY DUMPING. OTHERWISE IN GOOD CONDITION. TRACES OF INNER RAMPART IN NE CORNER (PLAN) (B5). SQUARE MOATED SITE NOTED 1847 (B1). IN 1862 MOAT BROAD & DEEP & CONTAINED FISH (B2). NGR TO MARSWORTH GREAT FARM (B5). Site visit by David Radford recorded that the moat has been dug out several times to enable use as a fishing lake, island raised 4ft due to dumping of material, steps set into bank (B8).
