Description

Remains of late nineteenth century gardens and park at Hitcham House The first edition 6" OS map shows formal and informal gardens surrounding the house with an area of parkland to the south. There is also a walled kitchen garden, two lodges, a garden terrace, two ornamental ponds and an area of pleasure garden. APs show that most of the parkland is now under agriculture with only a little bit surviving to the south. Only the features near the house have really survived. There is also some encroachment on the eastern side of the lawns by some buildings (B2).
