Description

Anglo-Saxon, medieval and post-medieval woodland features identified by woodland survey Historical background study and walk-over survey of College Wood caried out by Angela Simco in December 2001. A number of earthworks identified including the woodland boundary ditch and bank (parts of which are suggested to be of Anglo-Saxon date), medieval coppice boundaries, part of the park pale of Whaddon Park, a building platform, holloway, former tracks or rides, post-medieval saw pits, 2 small quarries, a pond and a surviving veteran oak (B1). NGR to centre of College Wood.
