Description

18th or 19th Century milestone on B 482 south of Lane End at Long Shaw Wood Probable eighteenth or nineteenth century milestone on grass bank sloping down to wood south of Lane End on B 482. 38 inches high with rounded top 14 by 16 inches deep. Inscription not visible' general condition poor'. [ Drawings, location and photographs available ] (B1). Recorded as present in 2002 on Milestones Society survey website Marlow to Stokenchurch route National ID number BU_MWST04. On east side of B 482 at Long Shaw Wood north of Wycombe Airport. 40cm wide 32cm deep 95cm high. Inscription not recorded but ' some old carving on back and damaged carved bench mark lower front '. ' On tight hill bend'. [ Detailed description, location and photograph available ] (B2). Recorded by J. K. Major in September 1973 one of three white painted square block stone milestones on B 452. Inscription not always visible. ' But said STOKENCHURCH 7 MARLOW 1 etc. '. Parabolic cross section above. Local authority maintained. (B3). Confirmed by handwritten notes on one inch OSD map (1835) Marlow to Stokenchurch (M) route. Bucks County Museum number XLVI sheet 46 page 5 of notes. Now in Centre for Bucks Studies.
