18th or 19th Century milepost on Buckingham to Brill road in Twyford
Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century cast iron milepost on Buckingham to Brill road in Twyford parish recorded by by P.N. Jarvis [ Bletchley Archaeoloogical and Historical Society ] in January 1965. North of railway on OS map. One of 12 on this road. Painted figures. Inscription: BUCKINGHAM 6: BRILL 9. [ Card consulted ] (B1).
Recorded on Milestones Society website as national ID number BU_BRBU10 on Brill to Buckingham route surveyed in 2002. On unclassified road 200m north of old railway line. 52cm wide 23cm deep 90cm high. 'Rusted through in 2010'. Inscription varies from that recorded in 1965. Inscription : left: BRILL 10: right: BUCKINGHAM 6: top: TWYFORD PARISH. [ Photograph, detailed description and location available ] (B2).
Confirmed by handwritten notes in HER including field notes mostly from the 1980s. Under "MILE POSTS. BUCKINGHAM to BRILL. ( Max Davies only )".
