Description

18th or 19th Century milepost on A41 near Tetchwick in Kingswood, may be missing Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century missing cast iron milepost on A41 at Sharps Hill Tetchwick. Recorded as possibly missing or moved in 2003 on Milestones Society survey website on Aylesbury Bicester route Natioanal ID number BU_LCB48. 54cm wide 32cm deep 87cm high, on north side of road.'Painted around 1997. Was on wide grass verge'. Inscription: centre: LONDON 48 : left: TO AYLESBURY 10 MILES : top: TETCHWICK IN LUDGERSHALL : right: TO BICESTER 6 MILES. [Detailed description, location and photograh] (B1). Confirmed by handwritten notes on OS 1'' map (1835) was in Bucks County Museum now in Centre for Bucks Studies. Museum number 22 sheet XXII page 2 of notes. On Aylesbury towards Bicester (H3) route. Inscription: London 48 Bicester 6. In same notes under " H3 Milestones on Ground." on Bryant 1825 and OS 1" 1835. Number 47 on 1" OS .On current OS. Only one milepost left on this route NGR 646 199 SMR no 1361100000.
