18th to 19th Century milestone on A40 at Wilton Park in Chalfont St. Peter
Probable eighteenth or niineteenth century milestone on A40 at Wilton Park near Sandy Bottom Lodge in Chalfont St Peter parish. Recorded as present on The Milestones Society survey website in 2001 on Uxbridge to Stokenhurch route National ID number BU_LW22. 45cm wide 39cm deep 93cm high on north side of road. Inscription: left: London 22 Oxford 32 : front: Uxbridge 7. Carved benchmark mid left side. Moss and lichen on top. [Detailed description, location and photograph] (B1).
Confirmed by handwritten notes on 1" OS map (1835) were in Bucks County Museum now in Centre for Bucks Studies. Museum number 48 sheet XLVIII on page 6 of notes. Inscription: Beaconsfield 1 Uxbridge 7 London 22. On Beaconsfield to Denham (B2) route. In same notes under J in red box. Milestones. 1835 Bryant - Marked from W. Wycombe to Bushey Leys.
