18th to 19th Century milestone on A40 at White Hill in Beaconsfield Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century milestone on A40 at White Hill near Holtspur in Beaconsfield. On Milestones Society survey website on Uxbridge to Stokenchurch route present in 2002 National ID number BU_LW25. On south side of road 42cm wide 40cm deep 67cm high. ' Under trees on wide grass verge'. Inscription: left: Oxford 29 'Wycombe 4 : front: London 25 Uxbridge 10 : XXV Miles to LONDON 1744: back: '? old carving XXVIII Miles to OXFORD. Carved benchmark ower right face. [Detailed drawings and location] (B1). Confirmed by handwritten notes on microfiched OSD Surveyor's Drawings (1814) and OS 1" map (1835) were in Bucks County Museum number 47 sheet XLVII now in Centre for Bucks Studies. Inscripton: London 25: Uxbridge 10. On High Wycombe to Beaconsfield route (B3). On page 5 of notes. In same notes under J in a red box. Milestones. 1825 Bryant- Marked from W. Wycombe to Bushey Leys.
