The stud at Reddings was established in the early 1850s by Baron de Rothschild and later maintained by Lord Rosebery.
The stud at Reddings was established in the early 1850s by Baron de Rothschild and later maintained by Lord Rosebery. The oldest buildings, 18th century thatched barns, were unfortunately destroyed by fire in 1999 and were replaced by residential properties designed to look like the barns. The remaining buildings in the group are Victorian and contribute to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area, particularly the main farmhouse with its decorative bargeboards, which has an earlier core, and the cart sheds to the north. Hawbridge is currently undergoing renovation and the stables alongside are to be incorporated into the house. This was an extremely successful stud which bred a number of Derby winners including Sir Visto in 1895, Cicero in 1905 and Ladas in 1894 who had a stone plaque added over his stable door. This is a local building of note within the Conservation Area of Crafton. (B1).
