Description

Mid-late eighteenth century house, formerly a public house known as the Plough from 1846 to the 1920s. A local building of note within the Conservation Area of Stewkley (B1). The Plough opened in 1846 and closed in the 1920s. The building is mid-late C18 with its main elevation to High Street North. 3 bays 2 storeys, rear projection with further large C20 rear extension added. Brick construction or possibly timber-framed, rendered and painted. Gabled roof, clay tiles. 2 chimneys, one in north gable and one between south and middle bays. Door currently in south gable with hipped and tiled hood on wooden supports (old photograph show the doors were in the main (east) elevation to south and central bays). Windows all replacement small casements with leaded lights. Cellar under rear projection only (B2).
