Description

18th to 19th Century milepost on Grendon Road at Kingswood, may be missing Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century cast iron milepost missing on Grendon Road Kingswood. Recorded as present in 2003. Missing on Milestones Society website updated 2010 national ID number BU_BRBU05 on Brill to Buckingham route. Was on east side of unclassified road. 'Inscription very difficult to read'. Not on current OS map or 1 to 2500 first edition County Map, location estimated from source (B1) GPS data .92cm high 52cm wide 26cm deep. Inscription: left: BRILL (5) : BUCKINGHAM (11) :top: KINGSWOOD PARISH. [ Photograph, detailed description and location available ]. (B1) Confirmed by handwritten notes including field surveys mostly in 1980s under " MILE POSTS BUCKINGHAM to BRILL ( Max Davies only )". NGR: 692 190 : Parish: Kingswood : Number on 1" OS 1835 : none : Information : Poor: metal mile post: some painted letters etc. ( no parish name to be seen ) illus as over + rough sketch ( Brill 5 Buck- 11 ). Illustration annotated : Metal mile posts on Buckingham to Bril road. No makers name. All similar design parish name on top mileage to Brill on L face Buckingham on right. Rough sketches available.
