Description

Early Mesolithic flint scatter found in gravel workings at Sandstone J G MARSDEN COLLECTED MANY TOOLS & POLLEN SAMPLES FROM GRAVEL WORKINGS AT SANDSTONE UP TO 1938. AFTER THIS, A D LACAILLE CONTINUED WORK ON THE SITE. PEATY LAYERS OVERLAID THE GRAVEL, AND FINDS CAME FROM THE TOP OF GRAVEL & THE LOWER PEAT. MAGLEMOSEAN ASSEMBLAGE PRESENT. (FULL DETAILS) (B1-3). Sandstone is another mesolithic site which is relatively close to the proposed Orange Route of the M25. Excavations have been carried out in the past, but these have not been systematic (B4).
