Nineteenth century excavation uncovered site of Roman villa ROMAN COINS FOUND ON SITE EARLY C18 (B1-2). SITE FOUND WHEN REMOVING FLINT FROM FIELD. EXCAVATED BY J S STONE, SEPT 1858. FLINT FOUNDATIONS WITH NO MORTAR. OUTER & INTERIOR WALLS 88M LONG, 0.5-1.5M DEEP & 0.8 M WIDE. PART OF FOUNDATIONS SEEM TOO WEAK FOR BUILDING (B3). MAX EXTEND NW & POSSIBLY SE TOO(B11).
