18th or 19th Century milepost on A41 Tring Road at Aylesbury
Probable eighteenth or nineteenth century cast iron milepost on A41 opposite number 209 Tring Road Aylesbury. Recorded as present in 2003 on Milestones Society website on Aylesbury to Tring route National ID number BU_LCB37. On south side of road 43cm wide 24cm deep 86cm high. Inscription: left: AYLESBURY 1 BUCKING.M 18 : right: TRING 6 BERKHAM.SD 11 LONDON 37.' Further inscription on back of upright LONDON RI & II and 1826.' Confirmed by handwritten notes on microfiched OSD surveyors drawings (1814) and 1" OS map (1835) were in Bucks County Museum now in Centre for Bucks Studies. Museum number 28 sheet XXVIII page 3 of notes. Inscription : London 37 Tring 6. On Aylesbury to Tring (H1) route. In same notes under Milestones and H in red box 1820 Erection of MPs (Sparrows Herne Trust) Nos. 33,35,36,37 still visible.
