Description

Late nineteenth century school, built in 1892 and now used as a nursery school. Built in 1892 this is one of the surviving Wycombe Board Schools. It is of a similar style to that built at Green Street by C E Moxham. It was built as a two class room building and subsequently added to in the 1900s. Internally the original exposed pitch pine trusses remain. The central bell tower was removed in the early 1960s although the plinth is still evident. The building is of local red brick under a slate roof with red brick decorative fittings. The road way elevation is enhanced by Dutch gables with decorative brick banding and stepped quoin stones. The window arches are of rubbed red brick with central keystones. Unfortunately the building has been marred by two recent (2009) additions that neither reflects the original building form or the material pallet. Proposed for inclusion on local list (B1). Added to local list (B2).
