Type

Building

Historic or particularly important modern buildings.

Description

Seventeenth or eighteenth century house with adjoining nineteenth century house. Flagstones and Lanford Cottage are part of the important grouping of buildings at the north end of the conservation area. The significance of the group is as much to do with siting characteristics such as plot sizes and shapes, variations of setback and orientation, as it is to do with features such as height and materials such as brick, flint and tile roofs. This grouping developed slowly over time, anchored by the farms which are the original buildings in the hamlet. Subsequent cottages were fitted into the remaining spaces between these buildings, resulting in irregular plot size and shape, and are accessed via undeveloped tracks through the common. A significant building within the Conservation Area of Wheeler End Common (B1).
