Description

Eighteenth century house with later extensions. On Studridge Lane is The Old Cottage built probably in the 18th century which was home to the novelist Rumer Godden from 1948. A brick and flint building with brick window surrounds originally of two bays, it has had another bay added to the left at some time, built in the same style. The cottage is a single storey with attic, wholly brick built from the first floor level with gabled windows in an old tiled roof. To the rear a two storey projection has been added in red brick, cutting into the roof of the main range which dips down to almost the tops of the ground floor windows. The windows are barred wooden casements, to the ground floor there are sectional heads to the windows but not to the first floor. There is a weatherboard single storey addition to the right side with an old tile roof. A significant building within Speen Conservation Area (B1).
