Description

Late nineteenth century house with twentieth century alterations and extensions. Robert Hudson was responsible for building Ferry Nab in the late 19th century, to the designs of Romaine Walker. The house was built on the site of the Ferry Boat Hotel, which had declined as river transport and ferry traffic diminished. It was purchased by Mr Arthur G Bendir in the early 20th century, converted to a private dwelling and improved. These improvements were carried further in the mid to late 20th century by the Kreitmen Family. A significant building within Medmenham Conservation Area (B1). Auction catalogue for the sale of the Danesfield Estate in June 1895 has details of 'Medmenham Abbey Hotel' and its outbuildings (lot 4), with photo and plan. The plan appears to show little change to the hotel building from the detail shown on the OS 1st edition 25-inch map (B2).
