Description

Early twentieth century architect-designed house, designed in 1907 in Arts and Crafts style. Designed for Harold Raffety, promoter of Oval Way. Forbes & Tate's plans for alterations approved in 1919. Central half-hipped dormer with eyebrow dormers either side. Two large chimney stacks, one on ridge and other on roof slope. Original casement windows. Brown brick. Designed in 1907 by Forbes and Tate. This is a local building of note within the Conservation Area of Gerrards Cross Centenary (B1). Designed and built for architect John Duncan Tate, the builder was Jesse Mead of Chesham. Tate bought the land in 1906 and submitted the planning application for the building (then called 'Lexden') as the owner. He lived there until 1917 (B2,B3). Illustrations (B3,B4).
