Description
Residential and training blocks built between 1961 and 1967, later converted to school
The CCA Training Centre buildings on the Fulmer Grange site have been retained. They were finished in 1967 and form a large quadrangle to the south-east of Fulmer Grange. The architects were Alex Gordon and Partners and consulting engineers Veryard and Partners. Sir Alex Gordon (1917-1996), the distinguished Welsh architect, was president of the R.I.B.A. in 1971. The training centre at Fulmer Grange was one of his principal works, with others being extensions to the National Museum of Wales, and many offices and university buildings in Wales. Most visually striking are the two identical four-storey, flat-roofed residential blocks with their external staircases/lift towers. Running between these is a single-storey services building incorporating the dining room. A covered walkway across a large quadrangle links the service block to two lecture-theatre blocks with gently sloping mono-pitched roofs. These are Local Bbuilding of Note within the Conservation Area of Stoke Poges West End. (B1)
