Part of grey brwn stone series recorded on Buckingham to Aylesbury road. [ Bletchley Archaeological and Historical Society ] (B1). Confirmed by handwritten notes on microfiched OSD surveyor's drawings (1814) and 1" OS map (1835) were in Bucks County Museum now in Centre for Bucks Studies. XXVIII page 4 of notes. Inscription: London 41. On Aylesbury to Weedon (C5) route. 'Holman's Bridge TP (SU817 144) (1835)' . [ Handwritten notes consulted ] (B2). In Peter Gullands extensive study of The Tolll Roads of Buckinghamshire 1706-1881 this milestone is on The Wendover and Buckingham Turnpike Road 1721 p.99.This trust stretched from the junction of Aylesbury Road with Wharf road in Wendover to Bridge Street in Buckingham. It is one of a possible 230 milemarkers in Bucks acording to Jefferies there is a modern record of 116. Milestones were set up by the trust in the act of 1742. There were originally a complete set of 21 milestones from London 36 to 56 near Tesco in Buckingham. 15 survive they were square in cross section most have pyamidal tops incised capital letters on faces facing road. These were replaced piecemeal so there are some unusual srtones. 15 survive 300 yards north of original site because of lenthening of a southern trust. Many mile markeres were hidden in WW2 two thirds on west five on east now this may be due to this event. This one is on the east according to Historic Layers Datbase. (B3).
