On ' All Historic Layers Database as LONDON 26 with benchmark in High Street Amersham. Also described in handwritten notes under Milestones- Types "1/2 mile from River Colne to Aylesbury - C2,C3,C4. Stone. Flat face parallel to road. 4-sided- Except- Bedgrove ( London 39) - angled to road, lettered on 2 sides." Note O.S. will show present- positions- may not coincide with historical positions. Not on current OS. In same notes under " MILESTONES ( In site 1986 except ? ) and in red C1/2/3/4/5/6/7 L1." In OS 1" 1835, Bryant and Jefferies. 26: ? Amersham, rd. to hosp. ? N. of Mkt. Hall. There are 116 milemarkers are left in Bucks out of a possible 230 maximum recorded orginally in County. 17 on this road orignally, all re-engraved in 1831. 11 remain on this route. Square plan with pyramidal top inscription on one face . After WW 2 not all were replaced in correct places. Two in Amersham on same side of road others alternate sides because road numbered from 2 ends towards the middle. (B2).
