Description
Late nineteenth century Rothschild estate cottage.
The Lodge is a visually attractive late 19th century building prominently positioned at the junction of the main road through the village and New Road. The building forms part of a group of late 19th century buildings which pick up on the architectural styles of George Devey in the School House and Village Hall and the style of picturesque estate architecture associated with the Rothschild family. The buildings within this group are typically detached and use a mixed palette of materials, typically brick, pebbledash/render and hung tiles. Roofs tend to be gabled and steeply pitched, laid in clay tiles and often punctuated by dormers. Eaves tend to be overhung, there are often decorative verges and invariably brick chimney stacks are an architectural prominent feature. A 'Local Building of Note' within the Conservation Area of Buckland (B1).
