Building

Historic or particularly important modern buildings.

Description

Thatched cottage, early C19 or possibly older. Early C19, possibly older. Small cottage, prominently at the front of its plot and visually prominent within the street scene. The building is rendered and two storeys in height. It sits beneath a steeply pitched gable roof, the ridgeline of which runs parallel with the carriageway. The roof is thatched. There is an end stack to the left hand (facing) gable, Despite alterations to the windows, this building is significant, because it forms part of a group of small cottages of two or three bays found within the village. These simple modest vernacular houses often have much earlier origins then their external appearance may indicate. These are very valuable survivals of a humble building type and they greatly contribute to the character and appearance of the village. Local Heritage Asset in conservation area (1).
