Nineteenth century public house known as The Rose and Crown
Public house situated on the corner of Vicarage Road and Wellcroft. Maps of the village suggest that this building is 19th century in date. Two storey brick building which sits beneath a gable roof laid in clay tiles. Brick stack to right gable of Vicarage Road elevation. Vicarage Road elevation has central modern porch flanked by tripartite casement windows to ground and first floor. Utilitarian weatherboarded outbuilding attached to rear and facing onto Wellcroft. This is an attractive building prominently positioned at a road junction. Distinctive because of visual prominence of outbuilding. Despite alterations this building retains its original simple outline, form and massing and is significant in terms of the contribution it makes as a social focus for the community. A local note building within the conservation area of Ivinghoe (B1).
