Nineteenth century country house, now a residential home
Peverel Court, south-east of the village, is a modern house built in 1862 (B1).
The buildings is a non-designated heritage asset in view of its: Architectural interest – the design of the building is typical of its Victorian date, for example the use of red brick and nods to past historical architectural styles. Aesthetic interest – the building has a number of attractive features, for example bay windows, chimneys and porch. The building is positioned in an attractive landscape which adds to its aesthetic interest. Historic interest – the building appears to date from the mid C19th, confirmed by the 1885 OS map. Evidential value – the building is typical of Victorian mansions, demonstrating the wealth of their owners and their commercial and philanthropic endeavours, in this case including in relation to local communities and for this reason it also holds communal value. Also of value is the setting, as mansions such as this were often positioned in landscapes to emulate the larger historic country estates to add to the status of the building and therefore the owner (B2).
